Classification of Computer :- computers are classified based on their different size and shapes.
According to size computers are categorized below:-
Micro Computers
The least
powerful, yet the most widely used and
fastest growing type of computers called portable computers. Desktop computer and laptop also known as notebook and palmtop is in this category. these are small and relatively inexpensive. First laptop
was developed by Alan Kay.
Mini Computers
These computers are larger in size, faster and costlier than Micro Computer. these are used as central computer like server. examples of Mini computers are - IBM-17, DEC PDP-11, HP-9000 etc.
Mainframe Computers
These computers are larger in size and more costlier than Mini Computer. They have large internal storage. Also know as backbone of business world. Examples of Mainframe computers are - IBM-370, IBM-S/390, UNIVAC-1110 etc.
Super Computers
These computers are fastest and most expensive computer in the world used for whether forecasting, business application, scientific and nuclear research. They have much speed that is measured in FLOPS ( Floating point operation per second). PARAM was the first super computer made by India by organization C-DAC.
According to work computers are categorized below:-
Analog Computers
These computers work on continuous electrical pulses can carry out arithmetic and logical operations. used in speedometers and seismograph.
Digital Computers
These computers are work on binary digits used to perform mathematical problems to produce desired result.
Hybrid Computers
These computers are the combination of analog and digital computer, used in hospitals for ECG (Electrocardiography) and DIALYSIS.
